Many people write village histories tending to concentrate on the “great and the good.” I want to give an insight into the ordinary lives that most of us led in the latter part of the 20th century.
Part two traces the horse ride that I undertook in the mid 1990's from Lyme Regis to Edinburgh Castle. Here I write of the simple pleasures that comes from traversing England at between 20 and 30 miles a day.

Johnny Longley is a friend of mine and I am delighted to see that he has published this book. The book is in two parts, one a guide to the village of West Knoyle, where he lived. It is a well-judged piece with just the right balance of historical and geographical background and personal experience.The second part concerns a journey he made from Dorset to Scotland on his horse Trigger. It is a marvellous tale and brings to life the journey, the people he meets and the country he travels through. He tells the story with charm and insight and it made me laugh out loud on several occasions.
It made me want to climb onto a horse and join him. I warmly recommend it.
