This was written by a friend's brother. Some may say this makes me biased, but I don't actually know him personally. When she told me about this book and the genre, I LEPT on it!! I love a good thriller like this, and with it kind of being set in our area, I wanted it.

I was not let down. It has the type of mystery that I like and couldn't wait to read it to the end!!!!

Be prepared for Shepherd's Fall to dominate your reading time. You don't have to be a fan of the genre to be consumed by this story of Will Shepherd vs Evil. Make sure the batteries are fresh in your reader AND flashlights... just in case! Let George Appelt Jr know you want MORE where this came from!
I picked this book up on a whim at a horror film convention. It was one of several that I picked up there. Of these, it was the most satisfying. Mr. Appelt understands how to craft a coherent story. The action builds right from the start and does not let up until the very satisfactory resolution. Fans of the horror genre could do far worse than this story. I recommend it! I look forward to seeing more from this author.
I bought this book at a local book store hoping to find a good read. I was happy to make this choice. From the first chapter to the very last I was drawn into the mystery and suspense of the story. From the struggle of will, to his innocent daughter each member in the cast of characters sticks in your mind. Just as you think you figured it out the story throws you off. The darkness of the story and the struggle of good and evil make this story great. I is on of the best book I have read in a while. I hope to see more from this author.
Working in the industry for fifteen years, I've read many debut novels by aspiring writers, and SHEPHERD'S FALL is one of the best. It is fast-paced. The writing is crisp and clean. The characters, endearing. This book will make you think that you're reading a writer's third or fourth volume. Not a first, debut work.
George does a masterful job of weaving subplots throughout the story, and bringing everything together for an ending that is very scary and truely remarkable.
If you loved Peter Straub's GHOST STORY, you will love SHEPHERD'S FALL.
The very first page of this book pulls you into this creepy tale of old ghosts and present evil. The story intermixes a haunted past and new events as the plot reveals the source of the terrors lucking in the old house a bit at a time. Shepherd is just a regular guy with a job who sees his personal life falling apart. This is not a book to read late at night when you're home alone. I really enjoyed how the storylines from the past and present intersect and overlap.
Great book. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. I read everyday and I had a hard time putting this book down. I would put Appelt in a class with Steven King as far as suspense is concerned. I'd buy any of his books.
From the first page to the last, this novel had me on the edge of my seat. I never knew what was real and hiding behind the next door. The author pulled me right into the characters lives. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good, scary, fast paced, novel. Just a warning, be prepared to be sleeping with the lights on!!!!
